I just couldn't help the title. We've got a new chap at work in the office and he's a similar age to me with a very quirky sense of humour. We do end up reminiscing rather a lot about old (80's ish) films and TV series that we knew and loved, which is really entertaining if a bit childish. The up side of this is that I do keep giggling to myself now about snippets I'd almost forgotten. After my last post, having a giggle about anything is a thing to be really chuffed with, and believe me I am chuffed!
The film that came flooding back to me today was 'Arthur' starring Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli and the sublime John Gielgud. The rather odd title above is a line from the calamitous 'almost' wedding in the film, where the Father in Law to be finally loses his rag with Arthur. Oh it took me right back to my friend Paula, who would happily quote this line in a slurred perfect Dud voice whenever us girls about town were out and about. Thanks Craig for reminding me, thanks Paula for all those laughs and thanks Dudley for being so funny. That is all x
I have not seen this one yet, but I've heard it is a good one. When you mention 80's movies it reminds me of my mother who has been absolutely obsessed with the movie Dressed To Kill, so much so that she won't stop writing essays about it! The strangest thing about it is that she hates the movie with a passion, so she writes about how much she dislikes it!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we sometimes end up saying more about the things we don't like than the things we do! I think you'd love Arthur though, its such a lovely, gentle comedy x
DeleteWe must be about the same age because having seen Author are least a dozen times I knew where the line was from - and of course heard it in the delightfully slurry voice your described! There are so many keen moments from this movie and others of our generation! How fun to be able to share some humorous flashbacks while at work.
ReplyDeleteI read your last post too, and just want to say I'm glad to know that things are falling into place for you. Life offers us so much - the good, the bad, the messy, the fun and on and on... It's easy to get out of balance. One step, one day, one stitch at a time and before you know it you've made it!
Looking forward to more projects and 80s references!!
Brilliant, that's exactly how it plays out in my head, in his voice! Thanks so much for your kind comments its much appreciated. I think being a bit brave and voicing my feelings more has definitely helped. I'm going to try and dig into some past favourite films and to give us all a bit of a giggle x
